The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed a sobering divine warning he received from God: leaving the church would result in the death of his firstborn child.
Speaking during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held at the Redemption City in Ogun State, Adeboye emphasized the critical importance of divine guidance and spiritual stability.
Referencing an earlier sermon by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, the revered cleric cautioned against the growing trend of church-hopping among young Christians.
He noted that, at the time of his salvation, several well-known ministries were flourishing, yet God commanded him to remain in RCCG.
“God told me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you’ll stay. The day you leave, your firstborn will die,’” Adeboye recounted.
At the time, RCCG was a small, relatively unknown church with its headquarters located in a humble building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite holding a position as a university lecturer, Adeboye said God instructed him to submit to his spiritual father, who had no formal education.
“My father in the Lord didn’t attend primary or secondary school, but God said, ‘This is where you stay,’” he added.
He urged the congregation especially the youth to seek God’s direction and remain where He has planted them, resisting the urge to chase trends or convenience.
“Find where God wants you to be and stay there,” he said.
Adeboye was clear to note that his statement was not a declaration of superiority over other Christian denominations.
“I’m not saying RCCG is better than any other church,” he clarified.
