Former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Nigerian Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.) has debunked reports alleging he was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
In a statement released Monday in Abuja, Buratai’s spokesman, retired Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, dismissed the claims as “false and mischievous.”
Usman clarified that Buratai remained in Abuja throughout the Eid festivities, celebrating with family and friends, and has not traveled outside the Federal Capital Territory.
“The story is entirely fabricated a deliberate attempt to incite fear, spread misinformation, and damage the general’s reputation,” Usman said. “It is yet another example of fake news designed to mislead the public.”
He expressed gratitude to Nigerians who reached out in concern and solidarity, reaffirming that Buratai continues to command widespread respect.
“No amount of propaganda can diminish the legacy of a man who has dedicated his life to the service of this nation,” Usman concluded.
