As part of the Democracy Day celebrations, President Bola Tinubu on Thursday announced a new list of Nigerians to be conferred with national honours for their outstanding contributions to the country.

 

The announcement was made during his State of the Nation address at the National Assembly.

 

Among those recognised were the late Kudirat Abiola, who was posthumously awarded the title of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR), and Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, who received the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

 

Also posthumously honoured were Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, and other members of the Ogoni Nine. President Tinubu also granted them presidential pardons.

 

The President stated, “In addition to these honours, I will exercise my constitutional powers to extend a full pardon to these national heroes. Further names will be announced in consultation with the National Council of State
