The Labour Party has condemned the recent surge of brutal killings in Benue State, demanding a swift security response and a full-scale investigation into the violence.

In a statement released Monday, the party’s National Caretaker Committee, chaired by Senator Nenadi Usman, described the attacks as “a renewed wave of senseless bloodshed” and called for justice for all victims, regardless of who the perpetrators are.

More than 100 people—among them women, children, displaced individuals, and security personnel—have reportedly been killed. Dozens of homes were razed, and entire communities left in ruins.

“These were not statistics—they were people,” Usman said. “Children who deserved protection, mothers who should have been raising families, and fathers who died defending their homes.”

She condemned the escalating violence across Benue and Nigeria’s North Central region, highlighting the targeting of vulnerable communities, ambushes on security agents, and destruction of villages as evidence of the government’s failure to protect its citizens.

“This is more than a Benue tragedy—it’s a national disgrace,” Usman said. “The impunity of the attackers and the vulnerability of the victims reflect a dangerous breakdown in leadership.”

The party urged the immediate deployment of military forces to high-risk areas and a coordinated humanitarian relief effort to support survivors with food, healthcare, shelter, and trauma services.

Usman emphasized the need for decisive action rather than empty words.

“To the grieving families, I mourn with you—not just as a political leader, but as a mother,” she said. “To the children left without parents, the women made widows, and the communities torn apart—you are not forgotten. Your cries must lead to justice.”

Reaffirming its commitment to security and human dignity, the Labour Party pledged to continue pushing for policies that prioritize the safety of all Nigerians, especially in rural and conflict-hit regions.

“Nigeria cannot continue down this path. Enough is enough,” Usman said.
