Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has adjourned the trial of popular music promoter Ezekiel ThankGod, also known as EeZee Tee, to September 26, 2025.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, disclosed that ThankGod and his company, EeZee Global Concepts Limited, were arraigned on May 7, 2025, on a seven-count amended charge.
The charges relate to alleged foreign exchange infractions and money laundering totalling $397,106.
Previously assigned to Justice Owoeye, the case has now been reassigned to Justice Aneke.
One of the charges reads “that you, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, and EeZee Global Concepts Limited, in June 2023 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, not being authorised foreign exchange dealers appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, negotiated a forex transaction worth $52,895 with one Mr. Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 5 and 29(1)(c) of the Foreign Exchange Act, CAP F34 LFN 2004, and punishable under Section 29(2) of the same Act.”
At the resumed hearing on Friday, the EFCC’s counsel, Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, presented the first prosecution witness, Mohammed Timta. However, defence counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) requested more time, citing ongoing settlement negotiations.
“We are close to reaching an agreement,” Ojukwu said, asking the court for one final adjournment before the trial proceeds.
Justice Aneke granted the request and postponed further proceedings until September 26, 2025.
