President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday downplayed the growing coalition of political forces working against his re-election in 2027, describing its members as “political internally displaced persons (IDPs).”
Speaking during a town hall meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the President urged his supporters to ignore the coalition, insisting it poses no threat to his administration. “Those who have triggered political coalitions are political IDPs,” Tinubu said. “Do not pay attention to them because they will remove themselves, not me. They will fail.”
The President was in the state for a one-day working visit, during which he commissioned several infrastructure projects executed by Governor Abdullahi Sule, including the N16 billion Lafia flyover and underpass.
Commending the governor’s developmental strides, Tinubu praised Sule for prioritising infrastructure, agriculture, and resource management. He advised the state not to focus solely on solid minerals, urging a balanced approach that includes agricultural development in line with his Renewed Hope agenda.
“I’ve seen fertile lands, mechanised farming, and local rice production. We will partner with you to boost solid minerals, but don’t forget agriculture,” Tinubu said. “We’ll empower farmers especially youths and women through small-scale financing and other support.”
Governor Sule, in his remarks, thanked the President for the visit and acknowledged that many of the state’s achievements were made possible by the increased federal allocations and the removal of fuel subsidies under Tinubu’s leadership.
He also appealed to the President to order the resumption of oil exploration in the state, which began in 2023 but has since stalled. According to the governor, Nasarawa’s oil and gas potential could support modular refineries and drive broader economic growth.
