The Nigerian Army has announced a three-day national mourning period in honour of 17 soldiers who were killed in a deadly attack in Kwana Dutse, Niger State.

According to reports, the attack—believed to be a coordinated assault by armed groups—targeted military bases in both Niger and Kaduna states, resulting in the tragic loss of several military personnel. The incident has sent shockwaves across the nation.

In an official statement released on the Army’s website and its verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the Army confirmed the casualties and declared that the mourning period would last from June 25 to 27, 2025, in remembrance of the fallen heroes.

During this period, all Army formations across the country will fly flags at half-mast, and personnel are directed to observe the mourning as a mark of respect. The Army emphasized that this gesture reflects the deep value it places on the lives and service of its troops.

The Army also extended heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased soldiers, affirming its commitment to honouring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The statement stressed the significance of the mourning period as a time for the nation to reflect on the sacrifices made by its military forces to ensure national peace and security. It served as a solemn reminder of the heavy price paid by servicemen and women in protecting the nation from ongoing threats.
