Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has stressed the importance of resolving the party’s leadership crisis over the national secretary position before proceeding with any National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting or national convention.

In a Friday night interview on Arise Television, Saraki called the ongoing dispute a significant obstacle to party cohesion, saying the NEC which plays a key role in shaping party strategy cannot function effectively until clarity is restored.

“This issue has gone unresolved for too long,” Saraki stated. “We can’t organize a meaningful convention without first settling the question of who the national secretary is. It’s a foundational issue.”

He pointed to the Supreme Court’s March 21, 2025 ruling affirming Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate national secretary, but acknowledged ongoing internal resistance despite the verdict.

Saraki noted that a recent meeting between the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) helped clarify the matter, with nine out of ten participants siding with INEC’s recognition of Anyanwu.

Rejecting the notion that the crisis is driven by political agendas, Saraki urged members to prioritize unity and legality over personal interests.

“The world is watching us,” he said. “There’s no hidden motive here. We are guided solely by what is lawful and best for the party.”
