Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has voiced strong displeasure over the sluggish pace of work at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

During an inspection visit to the construction site on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, Ibas labeled the contractor’s performance as “grossly abysmal” and well below expected standards.

His criticism was detailed in a statement issued Friday evening by his media aide, Hector Igbikiowubo.

“The contractor must do better. According to reports from consultants, progress is far too slow. I am not impressed by what I’ve seen,” Ibas stated.

“This is a critical project, and any further delays will not be tolerated.”

In response, Ibas directed the contractor to ramp up efforts and strictly adhere to the agreed project timeline. He also disclosed plans to summon the contractor for a high-level strategy meeting aimed at realigning efforts and ensuring firm commitment to timely completion.

Beyond the Assembly project, the Administrator also toured key sporting facilities in the state, including the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia and the Alfred Diete-Spiff Sports Complex.

He underscored the need for upgraded sports infrastructure to nurture local talent and host significant events.

“We have athletes excelling internationally, yet their local facilities are subpar. That must change,” Ibas said.

“My administration is determined to overhaul our sports infrastructure and provide world-class environments for training and competition.”

Ibas reaffirmed his government’s commitment to infrastructure excellence, transparency, and timely execution of all development projects.
