The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old carpenter in connection with the theft of four 43-inch plasma televisions from a residence in the state capital.

According to a statement released Monday evening by the command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, the suspect, Auwal Mohammed, resides in the Sabon Railway area of Bauchi metropolis.

“Auwal Mohammed, who was working as a carpenter at the residence of an unidentified individual, allegedly discovered the new televisions in one of the rooms of the premises,” Wakil said.

Wakil further explained the suspect’s tactics:

“It is reported that he subsequently relocated the televisions to a concealed area within the house, where they remained for around two weeks.”

After hiding the TVs, the suspect allegedly transferred them to a neighbour’s house for safekeeping and was paid N50,000 on credit.

“Following this period, he is said to have taken the televisions to the residence of a neighbour for safekeeping and received a sum of N50,000 as credit.”

Wakil also revealed that one of the TVs had already been sold.

“Further investigation has indicated that the suspect later sold one of the stolen 43-inch televisions to an individual known to deal in stolen goods for N40,000.”

Police say efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen property and track down the accomplice involved.

“Efforts are currently being made to apprehend his accomplice and recover the stolen property.”

The statement concluded that once investigations are completed, the suspect will face charges.

“An investigation is ongoing, and upon conclusion, Mohammed will be formally profiled and charged in a court of law.”
