Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, following Melaye’s recent remarks expressing regret over his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Melaye now a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) admitted he regretted backing the APC, stating, “I was blind then, now I can see.”

Responding via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Olayinka mocked Melaye, calling him a “former blind man and tree climber,” and criticized him for not casting his vote in the Kogi State governorship election, in which he was a candidate.

“Good morning this evening, former blind man Dino Melaye, the tree climber,” Olayinka wrote. “But was it the blindness that stopped you from voting in your own governorship election? How does one sit at home making social media content on the very day of his own election?”

Melaye, who initially joined the APC in 2015, later returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2019 elections, following a prolonged political rift with then-Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

He has remained a vocal critic of the APC, insisting that Nigeria’s situation has worsened under its leadership.
