The trial of Jamiu Olaniyi, the cleric who was accused of raping a 20-year-old girl in Ede, could not start on Monday as the defendant’s counsel said he has not been served the documents.
Upon resumption of the case on Monday at the Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ede, police prosecutor, Inspector Adepoju Sunday said he is ready for the commencement of trial.
But counsel to the defendant said he was only stepping into the case, urging the court to give him time to study it.
He, therefore, sought an adjournment.
The Presiding Magistrate, V. A. Adedokun adjourned the case to October 9, 2025 for the commencement of trial.
Olaniyi was charged on two-count charge bordering on rape. He was granted bail and was present in court on Monday.
