Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi, has resigned following revelations of his involvement in the bail of suspected drug lord Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

The resignation came shortly after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received a report from an investigative committee confirming that Namadi had acted as surety for the suspect.

While the committee found no evidence of financial inducement or the alleged ₦5 million payment connected to the bail, it highlighted concerns about the Commissioner’s decision to stand surety for an individual facing serious narcotics charges.

In a statement released by the Governor’s office, Namadi cited public interest and the sensitive nature of the case as reasons for stepping down, reaffirming his commitment to the administration’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

Despite maintaining his innocence, he acknowledged the importance of public perception and the need to uphold the values of the state.

Governor Yusuf accepted the resignation and reiterated his administration’s dedication to justice, discipline, and combating drug-related crimes that affect the youth and society.

He also urged political appointees to exercise caution in handling sensitive matters and to seek proper approvals before intervening in public interest issues.

The investigative committee’s findings revealed that Namadi voluntarily took on the role of surety, fully aware of the drug-related charges against Danwawu and the government’s strict policies against drug crimes.

Although there was no evidence of prior acquaintance or any financial exchange, the committee noted that the Commissioner failed to exercise due diligence before standing surety, raising concerns about the implications of his actions on public trust.
