Veteran broadcaster and actress Doyin Kukoyi has dismissed long-standing rumours that she is married to popular Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, better known as Ogogo.
The speculation started in 2022 after photos of both entertainers wearing matching traditional outfits surfaced online. Kukoyi further fuelled the buzz by posting the pictures on Instagram with affectionate heart emojis, prompting claims that she had introduced Ogogo as her husband and become his third wife.
In a recent chat on the Nollywood on Radio podcast, Kukoyi explained that the viral images were only a publicity stunt to promote a movie in which she and Ogogo played a married couple.
She clarified that she is happily married in real life and blessed with three children.
According to her, the public misconception never bothered her and even makes her laugh. “People still stop me on the street to ask, ‘How is your husband?’ and I cheerfully reply, ‘He is fine,’” she said.
Kukoyi noted that once something is shared online, people are bound to draw their own conclusions. “You can’t control how others judge you,” she added. “Nobody would talk about you if you didn’t put your story out there.
“At that time, I was on a movie location with Sir Tee (Ogogo). We played husband and wife, took a picture, and I captioned it with a heart emoji. Many still believe I’m married to him. I did it to promote the film and never corrected the impression.”
