The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola’s recent claim that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will take over both the Presidency and Lagos Government House in 2027.
Aregbesola, now the National Secretary of the ADC, made the bold statement while launching a grassroots mobilisation campaign. He asserted that the ADC was poised to unseat President Bola Tinubu and dominate Lagos politics in the upcoming elections.
Reacting in a statement released Sunday, Lagos APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo described Aregbesola’s remarks as a desperate attempt at political relevance.
“From Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and Minister, Aregbesola built his career on the APC platform. Now he attacks the very party that made him. That’s political suicide,” Oladejo stated.
He further argued that Aregbesola’s criticisms damage his own legacy more than the party’s image.
“Every jab at the APC is an erasure of his political résumé. Nigerians won’t be swayed by such self-destructive rhetoric,” he added.
The Lagos APC also criticised the ADC’s political standing, calling the party a “mirage” with poor electoral performance, and predicted its failure in 2027.
“ADC is all noise and no substance. Placing Aregbesola at its forefront is a clear path to defeat,” Oladejo said. “In 2027, Nigerians will choose performance over propaganda.”
Aregbesola made his remarks during the defection of Moshood Salvador, leader of the Labour Party’s Conscience Forum, and his supporters to the ADC. The event drew participation from party officials across Lagos’ 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.
Despite this show of support, APC remains confident in its chances, citing its governance record and development projects across the country.
