Residents of Orita Adeba in Lakowe and Sangotedo were thrown into panic on Saturday after suspected cult clashes led to the brutal killing of two young men in separate alleged reprisal attacks.
The incidents add to a wave of cult-related violence that has claimed several lives in Lagos State in recent weeks.
A resident of Lakowe, who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the incident, said the victim was hacked with machetes and abandoned by the roadside.
According to him, the attackers also severed the victim’s right wrist and fled with it.
He said, “It is true. It happened yesterday. They left the body at Orita Adeba, opposite the Lakowe Bus Stop. We can no longer sleep at night.
“We learnt that he was killed by the Aye cult group. His wrist was totally cut off. They have been killing each other to count scores for a few weeks now.”
A short video showed the deceased, dressed in brown shorts and a white vest with dreadlocks, lying in a pool of blood as mourners and residents gathered around in shock, lamenting and taking pictures.
Another resident, identified as Fatai, lamented the spate of killings in Ibeju-Lekki.
He said, “They just started killing each other. Just three days ago, my neighbour was telling me that someone was also butchered in the same Lakowe.
“It’s over three incidents now within a short time. The boy who was killed is believed to be a cult member also. They are using their lives to count scores.”
While locals attributed the Lakowe killing to cult rivalry, another young man was discovered dead by a culvert in Sangotedo.
Although the motive remains unclear, a video shared on the Naija Confra Telegram page showed the victim in a white singlet and black trousers lying lifeless by the roadside.
A senior police officer said details of the incidents would be provided later in the evening. However, as of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been released.
Last week, a similar cult clash in Ibeju-Lekki also left two people dead. Images from that incident revealed one victim with deep machete cuts to the face and severe wrist injuries, his body lying beside a blood-stained motorcycle.
