Arsenal great Thierry Henry has told manager Mikel Arteta that the time for excuses is over and that the Gunners must win a major trophy this season.

Arteta has guided Arsenal to three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League since taking charge. So far, his honours at the club include one FA Cup and two Community Shields.

Speaking on CBS Sports after Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League win against Athletic Club, Henry insisted that the current squad is strong enough to compete for top honours.

“As a fan, I’ll always support the team, but we have to be honest, this year is a must. No more excuses,” Henry said.

“If you can rotate players like he did against Nottingham Forest and he’ll have to do that even more as the season goes on, then you have the depth to win. I’m not talking about anyone leaving the club; I’m saying this year you must win something.

“If I were in that dressing room, my target would be the title.”
