President Bola Tinubu on Friday departed Abuja for Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the coronation of the new Olubadan, Rashidi Ladoja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the presidential jet took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In Ibadan, the President will join other dignitaries at the official installation ceremony taking place at the historic Mapo Hall. His attendance, alongside that of other top figures, highlights the national significance of the occasion as Ibadan celebrates the continuity of its cherished monarchical tradition.
Ladoja, a former Oyo State governor and senator, was chosen as the 44th Olubadan following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7.
Excitement has gripped Ibadan as residents celebrate Ladoja’s ascension to the highly revered throne.
At 81, Rashidi Ladoja is not only a respected businessman and politician but also a traditional leader who rose through the ranks of the Olubadan chieftaincy system to attain the apex title.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland is the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan, one of West Africa’s largest cities. The throne carries immense cultural, historical, and political significance for the Yoruba people.
