Following some pockets of crisis in the Federal Capital Territory, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the removal of Ajao Adewale as the Commissioner of Police in the Command.

Although the reasons Adewale was removed from his position remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report, sources familiar with the matter disclosed that he was removed for two major reasons.

Credible sources within the Force said Adewale would be redeployed to another place where his expertise is needed due to how issues of tinted-glass permit and the Arise News anchor’s death were handled by the command.

Adewale was posted to FCT Command in March 2025, succeeding Tunji Disu, who was redeployed to head the Special Protection Unit at the Force Headquarters after he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General.

“There are two major burning issues that affected his redeployment. One is the issue of tinted-glass permits, and the other is the death of the Arise News anchor’s death,” one of the sources confided in our correspondent.

Another source explained that the IGP was not happy with the growing security challenges in some communities that share boundaries with the FCT.

According to a police signal sighted on Sunday, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi, has been deployed to the FCT to take over.

The wireless message also revealed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, has been posted to Kogi State pending the approval of the Police Service Commission.

“Posting of Senior Officers. The Inspector-General of Police has ordered the provisional posting of the following officers as indicated against their names: To CP FCT- Compol Miller Gajere Dantawaye; To CP Kogi — Decompol Wilson Aniefiok Akpan pending the approval of the Police Service Commission (Polscom),” the signal read.

The message, referenced TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/213, was circulated to all zonal and state commands, formations, and departments of the Nigeria Police Force.

Confirming the development to our correspondent, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman of the Force, said the redeployment was done in good faith to ensure that the Force succeeds in the nation’s capital.

“Do we need to convince Nigerians that we are carrying out our mandate? Whatever we need to do to ensure that Nigeria and Nigerians remain safe and secure is what we will do.

“We don’t need to explain that to anybody. Yes, there is a change of baton at the FCT Command,” Hundeyin said in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.
