Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a meeting held at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa.
According to information gathered by Insight correspondent, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere, along with 18 other PDP lawmakers in the Assembly, also tendered their resignations from the party.
Diri’s decision to leave the PDP comes just 24 hours after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
As of the time of this report, Governor Diri has not disclosed his next political affiliation or future plans.
With his resignation, the PDP has now lost a fourth governor to the APC this year, leaving the opposition party with only eight governors across the federation.
Meanwhile, the PDP has commended Governor Diri for his service to the party and expressed gratitude to the people of Bayelsa for their continuous support during his tenure.
