The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement was made as part of the state’s broader initiative to reform and revitalize the sports sector.
The government stated that the Trust Fund will help attract financial support from philanthropists and private organizations, both within and outside Nigeria, to boost sports development in the state.
During the announcement, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports affirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is committed to transforming the Osogbo Township Stadium into a world-class facility that meets Olympic standards.
He said, “The ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is progressing swiftly, and we aim to complete it in record time. The upgraded stadium will be capable of hosting national and international sporting events.”
Adewusi also revealed plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports policy, development, and administration in the state.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he accepted the role without hesitation. His involvement is expected to draw significant attention and funding that will positively impact sports development across Osun State,” he added.
