First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has encouraged the 300 beneficiaries of the Renewed Hope Initiative–Huawei Women in Tech programme to apply their newly acquired digital skills to drive meaningful change within their communities. She made the appeal in Abuja during the closing ceremony of the nationwide training programme, according to a statement issued on Friday by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi.

The initiative — implemented by the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with Huawei Nigeria — aims to equip female entrepreneurs from all six geopolitical zones with practical technological skills to enhance their businesses and strengthen their participation in the digital economy.

Addressing the graduates, the First Lady said, “Although the training has ended, technology keeps changing. Your biggest strength is your ability to keep learning, evolving, and adapting to new trends available for your growth in technology.”

She urged them to apply their skills to address real challenges around them, adding, “Use your new skills to solve real problems in your various communities because true innovation is only valuable when it improves lives. Remember, you are part of a larger network—support one another and grow together.”

Mrs Tinubu thanked Huawei for its collaboration and encouraged the women to mentor others, particularly young girls who feel technology is beyond their reach.

The First Lady noted that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda focused on digital inclusion, economic diversification and empowered communities.

She said, “When women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become agents of change in their families, communities, and the nation at large.”
She added that the training, conducted between April and October 2024, successfully prepared 300 women for opportunities in today’s technology-driven world.

Earlier, Huawei Nigeria’s Managing Director, Chris Lu, praised the partnership, saying the programme was designed not just to instruct but to empower women to lead in the global digital space.
“Empowering women with digital skills is not just a matter of inclusion but a necessity for national progress. We know that when women rise, nations thrive,” he said.

Also speaking, NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Abdullahi, said the programme aligns with the broader vision of digital growth under the current administration.
He remarked, “When you empower a man, you empower an individual, but when you empower a woman, you empower a nation.”

He praised the First Lady and Huawei for their leadership and commitment, noting that the impact of the Women in Tech programme would extend beyond the participants to families and communities nationwide.
