Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has distanced himself from attempts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other prominent members. He warned that such drastic actions would only deepen the party’s already tense internal divisions.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Fintiri made it clear that he played no role in the push to sanction Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and former PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. He described the move as ill-timed and damaging to a party still struggling to recover from internal cracks and electoral setbacks since 2023.
“I want to categorically state that I am not part of any plan to expel the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Gov. Wike, from the PDP,” Fintiri said. “This decision does not serve the best interest of the party, and I cannot support anything that may plunge the PDP into a deeper crisis.”
Fintiri stressed that his position is anchored on the need to rebuild unity and restore stability within the opposition party. According to him, reconciliation not sanctions is the only path toward reviving the PDP.
“As a loyal party member, I stand firmly for peace and stability. I will not support actions that could cause further disintegration,” he said.
He urged party leaders and stakeholders to focus on healing old wounds instead of widening divisions, calling for meaningful dialogue, unity, and trust-building efforts.
“I remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace, stability, and progress within the PDP,” Fintiri added. “My stance has always been guided by the desire for reconciliation.”
His comments come amid heightened tensions surrounding the PDP’s national convention, where rival factions are pushing competing agendas and jostling for control over the party’s future direction.
