The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging a surge in kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway.
The rumour, shared widely through a flyer purportedly issued by the state government, warned residents of heightened abductions in the area.
The message further claimed that criminals were using commercial buses and the notorious “one chance” tactic to target unsuspecting commuters.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, took to his official X account on Friday to refute the claims, describing the message as recycled fake news.
“Good morning, Lagos. Please beware of this fake news circulating again!” he wrote. “We have addressed it before, but those spreading false information continue to recycle it. Kindly disregard this notification. Thank you.”
Akosile urged residents to share accurate information among family and friends, emphasising the importance of collective vigilance in maintaining public safety.
The state government advised the public to rely solely on verified updates from official government and security channels, particularly when commuting.
