Liverpool’s poor run of form continued on Saturday as they suffered a 3–0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, their sixth Premier League loss in seven matches in a game overshadowed by major VAR talking points.

Forest took the lead through Murillo, whose early strike survived a lengthy VAR check despite Dan Ndoye appearing to stand in an offside position directly in front of goalkeeper Alisson. The Premier League’s match centre later insisted Ndoye “was not in the line of vision,” a judgment that left Liverpool fans furious.

Moments later, Forest thought they had doubled their lead when Igor Jesus fired into the far corner, but the goal was chalked off for a contentious handball spotted by referee Andy Madley and confirmed by VAR. “I am astounded this has been ruled out,” former defender Michael Dawson reacted on Soccer Saturday, reflecting the confusion surrounding the decision.

Liverpool’s problems deepened just 39 seconds into the second half. Sloppy defending allowed Neco Williams to glide past multiple challenges before laying off the ball for Nicolo Savona, who smashed in Forest’s second. The home crowd were stunned into silence.

The misery was compounded late on when Morgan Gibbs-White finished off a brilliant move orchestrated by Omari Hutchinson, who easily drifted past Andy Robertson before providing the assist.

The reigning champions now find themselves in the bottom half of the table, a sharp contrast to last season’s consistency. Meanwhile, back-to-back wins under new manager Sean Dyche have lifted Nottingham Forest out of the relegation zone and injected renewed confidence into their campaign.
