Multiple communities in Niger State have come under renewed attacks as gunmen reportedly kidnapped at least 10 residents from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages in Shiroro Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, was confirmed by the Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, in an interview with Channels Television.

Abiodun stated that the police received the report shortly after the attack.
He said, “On November 26, 2025, at about 8 pm, a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims.”

Earlier on Wednesday, gunmen struck another location—Kakuru community in Erena Ward—where they reportedly assaulted a blind resident and severed his right hand after dispossessing him of a mobile phone.

In a separate report from the nearby Palaita community, also in Erena Ward, residents said bandits attacked a rice farm and allegedly kidnapped as many as 24 people, including pregnant women.
The figure, however, has not been independently verified by PUNCH Online.

These latest incidents add to a series of violent attacks in Niger State. Barely a week ago, armed men invaded St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area, where more than 300 students and 12 teachers were abducted—one of the most devastating school kidnappings in recent years.
