Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is expected to announce the political party under which he will contest the 2026 governorship election this Wednesday, according to reliable insiders.

The announcement comes just days before the December 15 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of candidates’ nominations ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship poll.

Sources told Insightlinks that Adeleke and his political team have finalised arrangements to move to a new party that will support his re-election ambition. One insider confirmed that the governor intends to personally unveil his new platform on December 10.

“Everything is set. An agreement has been reached, and the governor will unveil his new party on December 10,” the source said.

Although the governor’s decision is being closely guarded, it was gathered that his camp has held discussions with two political parties, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Accord Party (AP). Both options have been weighed in terms of their structures, strengths and possible political baggage.

Some advisers reportedly urged Adeleke to align with former governor Rauf Aregbesola through the ADC. However, others cautioned that such a move could saddle Adeleke with Aregbesola’s political liabilities, especially the lingering resentment over the half-salary policy (popularly called Afusa) implemented during Aregbesola’s tenure.

Another option evaluated by the governor’s team was to form an entirely new party. But insiders said the financial and logistical costs of building a fresh statewide political structure across 30 local government areas made the idea less attractive.

Despite the uncertainty, one thing is clear: Adeleke intends to meet INEC’s December 15 nomination deadline. His official declaration on Wednesday will end speculation about his next political home.

The governor recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following internal crises, making it necessary for him to choose a new platform before nomination submissions close.
