The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count cyberbullying charge against social welfare activist Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as Just Adetoun, after she repeatedly failed to honour police invitations and was subsequently declared evasive.
The charges, which are before the Abeokuta Division of the Federal High Court, stem from allegations that Onajobi used social media and other online platforms to spread false information and harass Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in violation of the Cybercrimes Act.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the activist was invited for questioning on January 2, 2026, but did not show up. According to him, Onajobi, through her lawyer, claimed she was medically unfit to attend and submitted a medical report in support of the claim.
However, the police said investigations later revealed that the medical report was falsified. Babaseyi disclosed that the doctor who allegedly issued the report was arrested and confessed that the document was fabricated at Onajobi’s request. The doctor has since been arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document and obstruction of justice.
The police spokesperson added that all efforts to reach Onajobi since then have failed, noting that her whereabouts are currently unknown. He said the command would use all lawful means to apprehend her and ensure she appears in court to answer the charges.
Babaseyi also stressed that while freedom of expression is constitutionally guaranteed, it does not shield individuals from criminal liability.
PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the police invited Onajobi following a petition over a series of videos she posted online criticising Governor Abiodun’s performance in office. In the videos, she accused the state government of abandoning victims of a fatal road accident involving associates of Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in December 2025.
Onajobi further alleged that Ogun State had no functional ambulances and claimed the government prioritised social events and the purchase of SUVs for local government chairmen over urgent public needs.
The police said investigations were ongoing and that other individuals linked to the alleged spread of false information were being tracked.
