Chelsea began their 2026/27 Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday night.
The Blues made a dream start under new manager Xabi Alonso, taking the lead just seconds into the encounter through João Pedro. The early goal gave Chelsea momentum as they looked to establish control in the West London derby.
Fulham, however, responded strongly and drew level through Josh King in the 23rd minute, ensuring the hosts remained firmly in contention.
Chelsea regained the advantage before half-time when summer signing Morgan Rogers found the net in the 41st minute, giving Alonso’s side a 2-1 lead at the break.
The visitors extended their advantage shortly after the restart, with Cole Palmer scoring in the 49th minute to put Chelsea 3-1 ahead.
Fulham refused to give up and reduced the deficit through Gonzalo García in the 54th minute, setting up a tense final period at Craven Cottage.
The hosts pushed for an equaliser but Chelsea held on to secure all three points and give Alonso a winning start to his Premier League reign.
The victory will provide an early boost for Chelsea as they begin a new era under Alonso, while Fulham will rue defensive lapses that ultimately cost them points despite their spirited response.
