The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of popular Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, better known as Destiny Boy.

According to the police, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. One suspect is currently in custody, while detectives continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the command had begun full investigations into the passing of the 22-year-old artiste.

“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the SCID, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is presently in custody,” the statement read.

News of Destiny Boy’s death broke on Sunday after disturbing videos surfaced on social media showing his lifeless body being transported to a mortuary. The footage, which sparked widespread grief and speculation, showed the singer lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.

Amid growing rumours, an unidentified associate of the late singer released a video appealing to the public to refrain from spreading false information. The associate disclosed that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.

“I want to make this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came into this life to write our own history. Destiny was nursing a health issue before he passed. We tried our best, but he didn’t make it. May God rest his soul,” the associate said.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his music journey at a young age and became known for blending Fuji sounds with contemporary music. He started out at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he also worked as a backup dancer for Fuji legend Pasuma.

He rose to fame in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song, If, which gained massive attention on social media. He later released covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, further cementing his growing popularity.

The late singer went on to release several original tracks, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.

Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed in November 2024.
The police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
