Stakeholders in the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what they described as a peaceful, orderly and credible voting process in Abuja.

The immediate past Speaker of the Bwari Area Council Legislative Arm and former chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bwari, Julius Adamu, gave the commendation on Saturday after casting his vote at Polling Unit 008, Katampe Village Square.

Speaking with journalists, Adamu expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and the calm atmosphere at the polling centre.

“INEC has done well, and the atmosphere is peaceful. There is no argument; people are freely voting for candidates of their choice,” he said.

Adamu disclosed that although he initially contested for the chairmanship seat under the PDP, he later stepped down after consultations with party leaders and decided to support the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his ward, Joshua Musa.

According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of unity and development within the area council. “God has His way of doing things. I had to step down for the progress and development of our people,” he added.

He further noted that electoral officials and materials arrived early at polling units he monitored, expressing optimism that the peaceful conduct would be sustained until the end of voting.

“There is nothing peace cannot achieve. If the atmosphere remains calm, the process will be successful,” he said.

Party agents at the polling unit also praised INEC and security agencies for ensuring a smooth exercise.

Glory Onuoha, Supervising Agent of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), described the election as peaceful and credible, expressing hope that the process would continue without disruption.

Similarly, Ilesanmi Adegoke, agent of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), commended electoral officials for their punctuality and coordination, noting that voting at Katampe Village Square was progressing calmly.

The FCT Area Council elections are being conducted across the six area councils, with voters turning out under tight security and a generally peaceful atmosphere to elect their representatives.
