A helicopter belonging to the Iranian army’s Air Force crashed on Tuesday into a fruit market in Isfahan province, killing four people, according to state media.
The official IRNA news agency reported that the pilot, co-pilot and two fruit vendors on the ground lost their lives in the incident. The crash was attributed to “a technical malfunction”.
The accident occurred in the city of Khomeynishahr, located in the central province of Isfahan.
Iran has experienced multiple air incidents in recent years, with authorities citing challenges in obtaining spare parts due to international sanctions, which have affected the maintenance of its ageing aircraft fleet.
In a separate incident on Thursday, an Iranian fighter jet crashed during a late-night training exercise in western Hamedan province. Iran’s state broadcaster reported that one of the two pilots onboard was killed.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into both incidents.
