Ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to adopt a grassroots-focused campaign strategy rather than the traditional large political rallies.

The state APC Chairman, Sola Elesin, said the party would soon inaugurate campaign councils across the local governments in the state to kick-start an intensive campaign drive.

Elesin made the disclosure in a statement released in Ado Ekiti on Thursday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, titled “What Ekiti APC EXCO saw during statewide tour.”

According to the chairman, the party intends to abandon the usual “jamboree-style” political campaigns and instead focus on direct engagement at the grassroots level.

“Our campaign will involve intra-unit, intra-ward, and intra-local government engagements, deviating from the usual jamboree-style campaigns,” Elesin said.

He added that the party had set an ambitious target of securing at least 95 per cent of the votes in the upcoming election.

Elesin also extended an olive branch to party members who may still be undecided, urging them to join the APC ahead of the poll.

“We are extending olive branch to party members still on the fence, inviting them to seize this opportunity to join the winning team. As the party campaigns across the state, there is still time to get on board and contribute to the sure-bet success.

“The writing is on the wall: Ekiti APC is ready for a historic victory, and Governor Biodun Oyebanji is poised for a landslide re-election,” he stated.

The party chairman also emphasised the need for intensified public sensitisation on the achievements of the Oyebanji administration while encouraging more residents to join the party.

“We need to further educate the public on Oyebanji’s achievements and the party’s vision. We also need to recruit more members to join our bandwagon and contribute to the party’s success,” he said.

Also speaking, the APC State Secretary, Garba Arogundade, said feedback from the party’s statewide tour indicated strong grassroots support for the governor.

“The message from the grassroots is clear – Governor Oyebanji remains the man for the job and the party is poised to ensure this through a landslide victory come June 20,” he said.

According to him, the party’s executives received enthusiastic support from residents during their visits across communities in the state.

“We were greeted with enthusiasm and appreciation wherever we went. The people of Ekiti State are happy with Oyebanji’s governance and they are eager to reward him with a second term,” Arogundade added.

The party also advised members to obtain their National Identification Numbers to facilitate electronic registration and urged those yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so in order to secure their voting rights ahead of the election.
