House of Representatives aspirant for Irepodun/Olorunda/Orolu/Osogbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Raji Abdullateef Abioye Akogun on Saturday distributed food items to more than 1,500 residents of Irepodun, Orolu, Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas of Osun State.
The distribution was held during a special Ramadan programme held in Erin-Osun on Saturday.
The event, which also featured prayers and a Ramadan lecture, brought together stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, Islamic scholars and supporters from across the constituency.
Speaking at the programme, Abioye said the gathering was organised to seek divine guidance and protection as political activities intensify ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
“We are here basically for two things. Firstly, to seek God’s guidance and pray for our incoming governor. As we go into campaigning proper, we need prayers and God’s protection,” he said.
He added that the programme also served as an opportunity to support party members during the Ramadan fasting period.
“We are also here to do Ramadan distribution of food items to party members in Irepodun, Orolu, Osogbo and Olorunda. This is just to appreciate them and give them a little package during this period of Ramadan,” Abioye stated.
According to him, the initiative has been sustained for several years as part of his support for party members and the community.
“What we are doing today is something we have been doing consistently for more than eight years. But this time, because we are going into election, we decided to add prayers to the programme,” the APC chieftain said, noting that more than 1,500 beneficiaries benefited from the distribution.
The prayer session was also held for the party’s governorship aspirant, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, whom participants expressed confidence would emerge victorious in the August 15 governorship election.
In his lecture, Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Taofiq Hussaini Aberuagba focused on leadership values and responsibilities attached to it.
“The lecture we held today focused on leadership, the kind of character a leader should possess, the attitude a leader should demonstrate in carrying out responsibilities, and the conduct followers should show toward their leaders,” he said.
Aberuagba also commended Abioye for organising the programme, describing him as a courageous man.
“He is a courageous person and a good individual. He is not someone who is selfish; he always works for the benefit of everyone and genuinely cares about people,” he added.
A party stakeholder and former House of Assembly aspirant in the Irepodun/Orolu constituency, Kamil Yusuf Opeyemi, popularly known as Golden, said the programme reflects the spirit of Ramadan.
“As Ramadan teaches us, we should always give. This is not the first time we are having this programme; it has been organised yearly. But this year we combined two things—Ramadan gift distribution and prayers for our governorship aspirant,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Jelili Fausat, expressed appreciation for the initiative.
“We truly appreciate the person who initiated this programme. Their efforts have brought relief to us. They will not fail, and their good work will not go to waste,” she said.
