The Kano State Government has refuted claims that Governor Abba Yusuf ignored the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the Hawan Nasarawa ceremony at the Government House.

In a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, the government described the reports as false, baseless, and intended to stir unnecessary tension.

According to the statement, it is customary for governors to pay homage to the President during the Sallah period. However, this year’s Eid-el-Fitr coincided with a strategic meeting of Nigerian governors, creating a scheduling conflict that required Yusuf’s presence outside the state.

The government added that the governor had informed the Emir ahead of time and directed the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, along with other top officials, to receive him on his behalf.

It further noted that Yusuf participated in the Eid prayer led by the Emir and attended the Hawan Daushe at Gaya Emirate. He had also planned to receive the Emirs of Rano, Karaye, and Gaya personally but had to delegate due to overlapping engagements.

At the time of the Hawan Nasarawa, the governor was reportedly in Lagos attending an official meeting with fellow governors.

The state government maintained that there is no rift between the administration and the Kano Emirate Council, stressing that their relationship remains cordial and focused on peace, unity, and development.

Residents were advised to disregard the reports and rely on verified sources for accurate information.
