The Confederation of African Football has appointed Nigeria’s Samson Adamu as its Acting Secretary-General, marking a historic milestone for the country.
According to a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation, Adamu becomes the first Nigerian to hold the position since CAF was founded more than 70 years ago.
He takes over from Veron Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down to pursue the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s football federation.
Before his elevation, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a key role in organising several major continental competitions.
The NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, disclosed that Adamu’s appointment was proposed by CAF’s Executive Committee and subsequently ratified during the organisation’s congress held in Cairo on Sunday.
His appointment is widely seen as a significant achievement for Nigeria within African football administration.
