Pep Guardiola is expected to leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, bringing an end to his remarkable 10-year reign at the club.

According to reports, the Spanish manager could step down after City’s final Premier League match on Sunday, although the club has yet to make any official announcement. Sources within Manchester City reportedly maintain that Guardiola remains under contract until 2027 and is still officially the team’s manager.

In recent days, Guardiola had kept fans and the football world uncertain about his future, repeatedly stating that he was happy at the club and still had one year left on his current deal.

Despite that, indications suggest Manchester City are already preparing for his possible exit, with former assistant coach Enzo Maresca emerging as the leading candidate to replace him.

Maresca previously worked under Guardiola during City’s successful UEFA Champions League-winning campaign and is currently without a job after leaving Chelsea FC in January. Guardiola had once described the Italian as “one of the best managers in the world,” adding to speculation that he could be the natural successor.

Guardiola joined Manchester City in February 2016 and has since overseen one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. During his decade in charge, he transformed City into a dominant force in English and European football.

Under his leadership, the club won an impressive 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League crown in 2023.

His trophy haul with City includes six league titles, multiple domestic cups, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and several Community Shields, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest managers in the club’s history.

If confirmed, Guardiola’s departure would mark the end of an era for Manchester City, with the club facing a major transition after a decade of unprecedented success under the Spaniard.
