A coalition of concerned youths in the Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to consider a young and vibrant aspiraht for ticket of the party for 2027 general elections.
The coalition in a statement obtained by InsightMedia on Tuesday said the appeal becomes urgent as it’s the demand of the current political realities.
They called on the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, Chairman of Elders Council, Sola Akinwumi, APC state chairman, Tajudeen Lawal to consider their appeal for a young person.
The youths emphasized that the “political moment demands a leader who is not only electable but deeply relatable—someone whose family resides within the community, who has a proven record of building people, and who genuinely understands the yearnings of the constituency.”
According to the group, “we advocate for a community rooted candidate, a vibrant and cerebral youth living among the people, alongside his parents and family. The youths noted that this proximity guarantees accountability, accessibility, and a shared stake in the constituency’s future.
“We need a leader who walks the same streets, feels the same struggles, and whose family is part of our daily reality,” the appeal reads. “This is someone who has consistently invested in youth wellbeing, demonstrated compassion through human capital development, and built people across our communities.”
The concerned youths reminded party leaders that the “Not Too Young to Run” bill has long been enacted, and the opposition has already fielded youthful candidates in past elections—a strategy that resonated with the electorate. To remain competitive and secure victory, the APC must match energy with energy, presenting a vibrant, fresh, and electable young leader.
“Adopting a cerebral youth who lives within us will not only neutralize the opposition’s advantage but also send a powerful message of inclusion and generational trust. The youth will feel carried along, and the older generation will embrace the fact that young ones are finally being given a chance,” the statement added.
In a strategic appeal to the party’s leadership, the youths respectfully requested that, while prioritizing a youthful candidate, special consideration be given to the most populous town in the constituency. This, they argued, would maximize voter reach, strengthen grassroots mobilization, and enhance the party’s chances of a resounding electoral victory.
The group reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the APC and its leadership, stressing that the proposed candidate is a unifier—not a divisive figure. They noted that such a decision would further unite party members, energize the youth population, strengthen grassroots appeal, and position the party for overwhelming success at the polls.
“We are not merely asking for a candidate. We are asking for a movement rooted in trust, proximity, and shared destiny. The kind of person we need is a vibrant and cerebral youth who lives within us, whose parents and family live with us, and who has already proven commitment to building people and answering their yearnings.”
The appeal concluded with a passionate call for the party’s elders, stakeholders, and delegates to act in the best interest of the constituency’s future and the APC’s electoral fortunes.
