The 2025/26 football season across Europe’s top five leagues ended with familiar dominance in some countries and long-awaited glory in others, as Arsenal, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain emerged champions of Europe’s elite domestic leagues.
The biggest storyline of the campaign came from England, where Arsenal finally ended 22 years of frustration to win the English Premier League title after repeatedly coming close in previous seasons.
After narrowly missing out in recent campaigns, Mikel Arteta’s side showed greater maturity, defensive solidity and consistency throughout the season to reclaim the league crown. Barcelona’s consistency at home and ability to secure vital away victories helped them maintain their grip on the title race, reaffirming their return as a major force in Spanish football.
Germany once again witnessed the dominance of Bayern Munich, who reclaimed control of the Bundesliga with another commanding title-winning campaign. Bayern’s superior squad depth, winning mentality and attacking firepower kept rivals at bay as they maintained their long-standing grip on German football.
In France, Paris Saint-Germain extended their dominance in Ligue 1 with yet another league title. PSG’s financial strength, star-studded squad and attacking quality once again proved too much for the rest of the league as the Paris club comfortably secured domestic glory.
Italy, however, produced a more dramatic title race as Inter Milan battled through inconsistency and pressure before eventually lifting the Serie A trophy. Unlike the dominance displayed by Bayern and PSG, Inter had to fight until the closing stages of the season amid fierce competition from rivals.
Despite their struggles at different points of the campaign, Inter managed to hold their nerve when it mattered most, grinding out crucial victories to emerge champions of Italy.
The conclusion of the 2025/26 season once again highlighted the contrasting nature of European football, with some leagues controlled by established giants while others delivered long-awaited breakthroughs and fiercely contested title races.
