The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with separate cases of alleged murder and child abuse in different parts of the state.
The arrests followed viral social media videos and credible information provided by members of the public, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga said the command launched investigations after receiving reports concerning the exhumation of a corpse in Nkpor and the abuse of a 10-year-old boy who sustained severe injuries across his body.
He commended residents for their vigilance and continued cooperation with security agencies, noting that public support has been instrumental in exposing criminal activities and apprehending suspects.
According to the police spokesman, one of the suspects, 33-year-old Ifechukwu Okechukwu, is being investigated for the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend.
He explained that the case was reported by concerned members of the public, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have since taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
In a separate case, police arrested three suspects identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40; Chisom Chukwuyere, 30; and Arum Goodluck, 16, over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.
During interrogation, Chisom Chukwuyere reportedly confessed to using burning plastic to inflict injuries on the victim.
The police said the child has received the necessary medical care and support, while investigators continue to gather evidence for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, enforcing the law, and bringing offenders to justice.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct through the command’s emergency lines and the nearest police station.
