The Oyo State Government has announced a temporary curfew across 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park as part of intensified efforts to combat insecurity, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the curfew will take effect from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily, beginning on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The government stated that the restriction will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours, with further decisions to be made based on the security situation.
The affected local government areas include Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Igboho), Irepo (Kisi), Saki West (Saki), Saki East (Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Otu), Iseyin (Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Igbeti), and Atiba (Offa-Meta, Oyo).
Prince Oyelade explained that the measure forms part of the state government’s renewed security strategy aimed at curbing the activities of kidnappers and criminal elements operating within communities surrounding the national park.
He noted that security agencies have been mobilised to intensify operations across the affected areas to restore normalcy and strengthen public safety.
The commissioner appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement personnel, and comply fully with the curfew directive throughout the operation period.
The Oyo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while assuring citizens that all necessary actions are being taken to improve security and maintain peace across the state.
