The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja, and supervising DIG for the South-West Zone, DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustaining peace, strengthening public confidence, and ensuring effective policing across Osun State.
DIG Adegoke made this known during his official duty tour to the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo, where he conveyed the goodwill message of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM and commended officers of the Command for their efforts in maintaining relative peace and security across the state.
Addressing officers, stakeholders and members of the media, the DIG described the visit as both official and personally meaningful due to his connection with Osun State. He, however, stressed that his foremost responsibility remains the protection of lives and property of all residents.
He acknowledged recent security concerns in the state, particularly cult-related incidents recorded during the ongoing political activities ahead of the governorship election, but expressed confidence in the proactive efforts of the Command in tackling criminal activities.
According to him, the Command has continued to record operational successes, including the recovery of arms and ammunition and the implementation of strategic measures aimed at preserving law and order.
DIG Adegoke commended the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, for what he described as purposeful leadership and operational effectiveness. He also praised officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty.
Reaffirming the position of the Nigeria Police Force in Nigeria’s democratic process, the DIG stressed that the Force remains professional, neutral and guided strictly by constitutional provisions.
“Our allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political interest. Officers must remain impartial, disciplined and professional in carrying out their responsibilities,” he stated.
He further appreciated the Osun State Government and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, for supporting security operations through the provision of operational vehicles and other interventions that have strengthened policing capacity in the state.
The visit was attended by members of the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON), Osun State Chapter, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other key stakeholders.
DIG Adegoke applauded the stakeholders for their continued partnership with security agencies in promoting community policing, strengthening intelligence gathering and building public trust.
He called on traditional rulers, youth groups, religious leaders, civil society organisations and residents to continue supporting security agencies through timely and credible information sharing.
The DIG also charged officers of the Command to remain vigilant, deepen inter-agency collaboration and sustain efforts aimed at improving public confidence in policing.
As part of the visit, DIG Adegoke paid a courtesy call on the Ataoja of Osogbo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, Larooye II, where he used the opportunity to appreciate traditional rulers across Osun State for their support and cooperation with security agencies.
He disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police had deployed additional personnel to Osun State to strengthen security and maintain peace.
The DIG also extended condolences to families affected by recent security incidents and assured residents that political activities would not be allowed to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed in the state.
He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring public safety across Osun State.
