Suspected political hoodlums on Sunday attacked the convoy of Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), in Ede South Local Government Area.
It gathered that Dr Oyebamiji had visited Alajue Ward 2 to mobilise and educate voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election when the incident happened.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 7 p.m. after she concluded the engagement alongside Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Kayode Adereti.
According to sources, about 15 armed hoodlums attacked the convoy as it was leaving the venue.
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, was said to have sustained severe head injuries during the attack.
However, Dr Oyebamiji and Mrs Adereti escaped the attack unhurt.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Kola Salami, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
Salami said the incident occurred around Alajue and Sekona Garage as Dr Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti were returning from a political programme in Alajue, Ede.
He alleged that the attackers were loyalists of the Accord Party.
The police has not reacted to the matter while the campaign council of the APC has not made any statement.
