2027: Tinubu Campaign Council mission dead on arrival — APM

The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s newly constituted campaign council is subjected to fail, describing the team as an assembly of ‘yes men’ and politically discredited figures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to the party, the issue is beyond the personalities on the list. It said the composition of the council reflects what it considers Tinubu’s declining political standing and inability to attract credible figures with the public goodwill, loyalty and confidence needed to prosecute a winning presidential campaign.

APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, stated this in a statement on Saturday, in which the party particularly attacked the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Abdul-Aziz Yari, as Director-General of the campaign.
It alleged that insecurity and poor living conditions worsened in Zamfara under Yari’s administration.

“If after three and half years in power, President Tinubu could not garner the capacity to assemble a credible team, then it is clear that indeed he has no business being in charge of a nation as complex and demanding as Nigeria,” Yusuf said.

The party also accused the campaign council of being populated by “known political sycophants, inconsistent characters and ideology turncoats”, including former governors it claimed had recently faced public rejection in Osun State and politicians seeking political cover amid corruption allegations.

APM linked its opposition to Tinubu’s re-election to the administration’s handling of insecurity, claiming that 628,000 Nigerians had been killed and more than 2.2 million others, including children, abducted in the three and a half years since the President assumed office.

It also attacked the administration’s economic policies, alleging that more than 140 million Nigerians had been pushed below the poverty line, with unemployment at 33 per cent and national infrastructure in a state of collapse.

“How can any well-meaning Nigerian campaign for an administration that has ruined our economy with ill-advised and ill-implemented anti-people policies resulting in the crippling of our national productive sectors?” the party asked.

APM said the recent Osun governorship election should serve as a warning to the Tinubu campaign, arguing that the political reception there exposed the limits of the President’s ability to mobilise popular support ahead of 2027.

“The APM therefore counsels the Tinubu Campaign Council to note that their mission is dead on arrival,” the party declared.

Having taken aim at Tinubu’s record, APM turned to its own alternative, presenting its presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, as the politician capable of mounting a stronger challenge to the President.

The party claimed Makinde was gaining the support of Nigerians as a credible alternative and said his proposed administration would pursue a more transparent and people-centred approach to governance.

“Our candidate is armed with a blueprint for a new and transparent approach to governance that puts Nigerians first, prioritizing inclusive human development and wellbeing through people-oriented policies and prudent management of resources,” Yusuf said.

According to the party, the blueprint would focus on security of lives and property, industrialisation, massive youth employment, national infrastructure, an efficient public service and sustainable prosperity.

APM urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by the composition of Tinubu’s campaign council, but to look instead towards what it described as a ‘new beginning’ under a proposed Makinde/Daura presidency.
