The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is set to be turbaned as the Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

The ceremony, which will be performed by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, will take place at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin from 10am.

According to the Emir, the conferment of the traditional title is in recognition of AbdulRazaq’s leadership, commitment to peace and unity, as well as the developmental strides recorded across the state under his administration.

The monarch’s spokesperson, Dr AbdulAzeez Arowona, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

The statement said arrangements had been concluded for the turbaning of the governor, who is also Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and President of the Forum of Regions of Africa.

It described the event as a historic ceremony and invited government officials, traditional title holders, religious leaders, members of the public and other well-wishers to attend.

The Emir also directed that special prayers be offered during the occasion for continued peace, progress and prosperity in Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Danmasami of Ilorin, Engr. Suleiman Alapansanpa, congratulated AbdulRazaq on the conferment, describing the title as an honour worth celebrating.

“I thank God for his life. I’m very happy with him and I congratulate him from the depth of my heart. I pray that he ends well,” Alapansanpa said in an interview.
