The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has introduced a procedure allowing candidates who have lost access to their registered phone numbers or email addresses to update their details on the JAMB portal.
The board announced the development in a video shared on its X account on Wednesday, saying the measure was designed to assist candidates who can no longer access the SIM cards or email accounts linked to their profiles.
According to JAMB, affected candidates can now change their registered phone numbers or email addresses after completing the required verification process.
“Candidates who lost their SIM card can now swap it with a new one. And those who also lost access to their email addresses on the JAMB portal can now change to a new one,” the board said.
How to change your phone number or email on JAMB portal
Candidates seeking to use the service are required to follow these steps:
1. Obtain a court affidavit
The candidate must first obtain an affidavit from a High Court to support the request for a change of the registered phone number or email address.
2. Log into JAMB e-Facility
After obtaining the affidavit, log into the candidate’s JAMB e-Facility account.
3. Select ‘Penalties’
From the e-Facility dashboard, select the ‘Penalties’ option.
4. Select SIM Swap/Email Change
Under the Penalties section, choose ‘SIM Swap/Email Change Penalty Payment.’
5. Make the required payment
Proceed to pay the prescribed fee through the JAMB portal.
6. Visit a designated JAMB centre
After making the payment, the candidate must visit a designated JAMB office to complete the process.
JAMB said the service is available only at designated JAMB PTC/PRC Centres.
7. Provide profile details
At the centre, the candidate will be required to provide their profile code and existing GSM number.
8. Complete biometric verification
The candidate will undergo biometric verification as part of the process.
9. Upload the affidavit
The candidate must upload a scanned copy of the court affidavit obtained earlier to complete the request.
Who can use the service?
JAMB said the service is meant for candidates with genuine cases of lost access to their registered GSM numbers or email addresses.
The board also warned that the service can only be used once, advising candidates to ensure that the new phone number or email address supplied is accurate before completing the process.
The new procedure is expected to help affected candidates regain access to their JAMB profiles and receive important examination and admission-related notifications.
