The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill, 2026, aimed at reforming the regulation and management of commercial transportation and motor parks across the state.
The passage was disclosed in a statement issued by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
According to the statement, the bill, sponsored as a Private Member’s Bill by the Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport, seeks to establish an integrated system for the registration, regulation, management and digital administration of commercial transport, traffic, motor parks, terminals, garages, loading points and related infrastructure.
A major provision of the legislation is the introduction of a digitalised ticketing system designed to eliminate multiple ticketing in motor parks.
Tiamiyu said the initiative is expected to reduce the financial burden on transport operators, improve transparency and make revenue collection by the state government more efficient.
The bill also seeks to strengthen the protection of passengers and other motor park users, promote accountability in the transport sector and improve the state’s internally generated revenue through a coordinated and transparent park management system.
According to the statement, the bill was extensively considered by lawmakers at the Committee of the Whole before it was referred to the House Committee on Works and Transport and the Legal Department for further scrutiny and necessary review.
Following the review, the committee’s report was presented to the House and adopted after a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewumi, and seconded by Hon. Sikiru Bajepade.
The Speaker subsequently directed lawmakers to scrutinise the clean copy of the bill.
Adewumi later moved the motion for the third reading and passage of the bill, which was seconded by Hon. Taofiq Olayiwola.
The motion was adopted, leading to the passage of the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill, 2026.
Tiamiyu said the legislation would provide a clearer regulatory framework for motor park management while fostering a more organised relationship among transport operators, commuters and relevant government agencies.
He added that the passage marked another step towards improving orderliness in the transport sector, protecting commuters and promoting transparency in revenue generation.
The statement said the clean copy of the bill would now be forwarded to the Osun State Governor for assent in line with the constitutional process for enacting legislation.
The House, according to Tiamiyu, reaffirmed its commitment to enacting people-oriented laws aimed at promoting good governance, protecting residents’ interests, improving citizens’ welfare and supporting the sustainable development of the state.
