The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe State, Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, has lost her twin daughters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, just two days apart.
Hadiyah, a medical doctor, died on Friday, October 2, 2026, while her twin sister, Aidah, a pharmacist, died on Sunday, October 4, following complications associated with sickle cell disease.
Hadiyah had reportedly been receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, for about a week after suffering a sickle cell crisis before she died on Friday.
She was later laid to rest following funeral prayers at the Emir’s Palace in Nguru.
Aidah was also receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital around the same period. She reportedly recovered and was discharged before her twin sister’s death.
However, two days after Hadiyah’s burial, Aidah visited her sister’s grave.
She reportedly collapsed shortly after the visit and was rushed to hospital, where she later died.
The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, confirmed Aidah’s death in a post on its Facebook page, describing her as the “second twin” of Professor Usman.
The deaths have left the family and those who knew the sisters mourning the loss of two young professionals who had pursued careers in healthcare.
Hadiyah served as a medical doctor, while Aidah was a pharmacist, following in a profession closely connected to the medical field.
The sisters’ deaths, occurring just 48 hours apart, have drawn attention to the devastating impact of sickle cell complications and the profound loss suffered by their family.
