Manchester United have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea, with striker Benjamin Sesko expected to remain sidelined until at least January due to a shin injury.

The 23-year-old Slovenian has not featured for United since their Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton on September 16, when he was forced off in the 66th minute.

According to BBC Sport, Sesko has undergone several medical tests to determine the cause of the problem, with United manager Michael Carrick repeatedly seeking updates on the striker’s recovery.

The latest assessment reportedly suggests that the injury may be impact-related rather than shin splints, although the change in diagnosis has not eased concerns over his return.

Sesko’s absence is a setback for United as they prepare for a demanding run of fixtures, including their meeting with Chelsea. His unavailability leaves the club without one of their attacking options at a time when squad depth could prove important.

The striker’s recovery will now be closely monitored, with United hoping to have him available again in the New Year.

Sesko’s injury also highlights the challenge facing Carrick as he looks to manage his attacking resources and maintain the team’s competitiveness during a busy period of the season.
