The deceased was reportedly stabbed with a broken bottle by one of the suspects, identified as Taiwo Babarinde, during the disagreement on November 1, 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the victim’s family learnt about the incident after an unidentified motorcyclist arrived at their residence to inform them of the attack.

Police officers and a patrol team were subsequently deployed to the scene, while Asimiyu was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, along Iwo Road, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor.

His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation.

The police identified the arrested suspects as Babarinde, who allegedly inflicted the fatal injury, and Ishola Semiu, who was suspected of involvement in the incident.

The command said the suspects were in custody, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the incident reportedly triggered unrest at the Olodo Police Outpost, with subsequent threats by suspected hoodlums raising concerns about a possible breakdown of law and order.

To restore calm, the police said additional security personnel were deployed to the area, with support from the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other local security agencies.

The command said normalcy had been restored, adding that security presence had been sustained to prevent further disturbances and protect residents.

It also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to engage community stakeholders to address the situation and prevent a recurrence.

The Area Commander subsequently held a meeting with representatives of the Local Council Development Area, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as youth leaders, to discuss ways of promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening collaboration with security agencies.

The police warned individuals or groups against actions capable of inciting violence or disrupting public peace in the area.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain calm, shun violence and embrace dialogue in resolving disagreements.
